The 72-Hour Reset™

Change your story in 72 hours—without burning your life down
Reinventing myself made me fall in love with my life, and my work.
I’d like to help you change yours.
At 51, after the loss of my wife to cancer and having to close my business, I was searching for the meaning in all the chaos.
Using my experience as a designer, I realized I had the tools to redesign my world. I realized that if I could change my identity, my old story, I could change my life.
I rewrote my “story,” set up a few experiments to test my new identity, and accidentally created a new business in the process. Since then, I’ve used this technique to reinvent myself again and taught it to hundreds of others.
I believe I can teach you to do the same.
Is this you?
You’ve outgrown your old story, but life is still built around it
You’ve checked the boxes. Career, family, house, maybe even the dream title.
But lately, your inner monologue sounds like this:
- “I should be happy. Why does this feel so flat?”
- “I’ve outgrown the story that got me here. Now what?”
- “I know something needs to change, but I can’t just blow up my life.”
The 72-Hour Reset™ is designed for exactly this tension.
You probably don’t need a sabbatical, a camper van, or a divorce.
You need a structured, low-risk way to begin living differently—while still honoring the responsibilities you have.
How the 72-Hour Reset™ works
The 72-Hour Reset™ runs over three days. Expect about 20–30 minutes a day of focused work, plus one live call at the beginning and one at the end.

Before We Begin
Prep (15–20 minutes)
Quick intake: Where are you now? What feels “off”?
- A short video from Richard on what to expect.
- A simple reflection exercise: “What’s the story I’ve been living?”

Day 1
See Your Stories
Theme: Understanding the infinite and the finite; waking up to your stories.
- 1 hour kick-off live call (or video if you can’t make the start time) with Richard
- Guided exercise: Identify your “domestic propaganda” stories
- Develop a set of “lived questions”
- Short practice: Observing thoughts vs. being thoughts
- Homework (20 minutes): Rewrite one old story and explore how it has shaped your choices

Day 2
Live it, notice it, keep it
Theme: Presence, embodiment, and integration.
- Short video: Awareness of body and senses; how to live your question, not chase the answer
- Exercise during your experiment: Micro check-ins on how you feel, what you notice
- Integration prompt: How will you repeat this process over the next 30 days?

Day 3
Design your thin-slice experiment
Theme: Small experiments that change your immediate and long-term experience.
- Short video: Why “being right” keeps you stuck, and why cheap mistakes change everything
- Exercise: Define your emotional GPS (how you want to feel, not just what you want to have)
- Design your 72-hour thin-slice experiment (tiny, real-world test of a new identity or behavior)
- Optional partner / small group accountability check-in
- Closing live call: Share learnings, normalize “failed” experiments, lock in next steps
Ready to run your first thin-slice experiment?
What you'll have after 72 hours
By the end of the 72-Hour Reset™, you’ll have:
A rewritten
core story
You’ll identify your “domestic propaganda”—the old narratives that keep you small—and replace them with a story that actually reflects who you are now.
A personal
emotional GPS
You’ll define the feeling-state you actually want your life to produce (calm, creative, adventurous, spacious… whatever is true for you) and learn how to use it to make decisions.
One completed
thin-slice experiment
Not a plan. Not a journal entry. A real-world, 72-hour experiment that shows you how quickly reality starts to shift when you change how you show up.
A simple,
repeatable framework
You’ll leave with a practical process you can reuse any time you feel stuck, restless, or on the edge of a new chapter.

Meet Your Facilitator

Richard Banfield
I’ve spent more than two decades helping teams and leaders design high-stakes products, brands, and experiences. As the former CEO of a product design studio and the author of books like Product Leadership and Design Leadership, I’ve led hundreds of workshops and transformations for organizations around the world.
After losing my wife to cancer, burning out, and rebuilding his life from the ground up, I co-founded Second Harvest to help others navigate their own second chapters with more courage, creativity, and humanity.
The 72-Hour Reset™ is his most distilled, practical version of what I’ve learned—from boardrooms, retreats, and the messy middle of real life—about how change really happens.

Around 20–30 minutes for lessons and reflection, plus the live calls at the beginning and end, which are each about an hour.
Sharing is encouraged but never forced. You can do the work privately and still get full value.
No. The 72-Hour Reset™ is a structured learning experience. We’re not therapists, and this isn’t a replacement for mental health care. It’s a practical framework for people who are ready to take ownership of their next chapter.
All calls are recorded and available for replay. You’ll still be able to follow the program at your own pace within the 72-hour window.
No. This course stands alone. For retreat alumni, it’s a powerful integration tool. For new folks, it’s a great first step into Second Harvest.
