You’re not starting from scratch. You’re starting with everything you've learned.

You’re good at what you do. You’re just less sure you want to keep doing it for someone else. You're probably exhausted too.
You’ve had a business idea, or five, for years. None of them has made it further than a notes app. You're stuck in research procrastination.
You suspect your experience is worth more than a salary, but you haven't figured what you’d sell, how you'd package it or who would buy it.

This workbook is for the space between maybe one day and okay, let’s try it.

What you’ll work through

From “I don't know what to do” to “I have a clear offer and know exactly how to sell it.”

Practical exercises, one step at a time. You write, you decide, you leave with a plan you can start in just days or weeks.

Take stock of what people will pay you for and the various ways they will buy it.
2
Explore business ideas that fit your strengths and lifestyle

3
Get clear on who you want to serve and what you could offer them

Who made this

Richard Banfield has spent his career building businesses.

He was a founding member of Acceleration, an international marketing-technology company now part of WPP, then co-founded Boston design firm Fresh Tilled Soil and led it as CEO, delivering product and design work for more than 700 clients. Along the way he wrote and co-wrote books on leadership and product, including Product Leadership (O’Reilly).

Today he and Devon McDonald run Second Harvest, a community for people in midlife who are designing their next chapter. This workbook is same book used in the in-person workshops and in our 1:1 coaching sessions.

This is for you if

  • You have years of real work experience, are ready to leave corporate, and wonder what else it might work.
  • You want a low-risk way to test an idea before you quit, retire or change anything big.
  • You think best on paper and would rather do the work than watch another course.

It’s not for you if

  • You want a done-for-you business or a get-rich-quick plan.
  • You’re after ad, funnel or social-growth tactics. This is about what to build first.
From people who did the work
“

Since we spoke yesterday, I’ve launched my advisory, announced on LinkedIn, solidified the frameworks and narrative around the work, and have a first client wanting a proposal.

“

I stopped theorizing about it. I took an in-person conference and used it to pressure test the work on real people… I now have three customers in the pipeline I am working toward closing. Not closed yet, but that is a very different place than where I was sitting in your workbook a month ago.

Questions

What exactly am I buying?

A digital workbook in PDF format. Nothing ships; you download it straight after checkout.

I’m not sure I even want to start a business yet.

Then it’s a good time to do this. The exercises help you find out whether there’s a business in your experience, and what a small, safe first test would look like, before you change anything.

Your experience is already the hard part.

Spend a few evenings turning it into a plan you can test.
